They expect a $4.4 billion budget short fall. Meanwhile they are also considering spending $30 million over the next two years on the CRC. State legislators need to know that we should not fund any part of a 12-lane CRC--a project that will create more traffic, induce sprawl, and harm the health of the environment and communities around the bridge.
The Columbia River Crossing is a massive project that will replace the existing I-5 bridge between Portland and Vancouver. The current est. cost is 4.2 billion dollars.
This blog is journaling the efforts to prevent spending a bridge that is fundamentally at odds with our values in the Northwest.
We want a people-centric transportation policy promoting bikes and rail. The CRC is car-centric.
We want to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. the CRC fuels the climate crisis.
We want vibrant, livable communities. The CRC encourages sprawl and destroys neighborhoods.
We want to be able to get places easily, but we wont put future generations into debt for our comfort.
